Planning The Perfect Picnic
What better way to enjoy a summer day than with a picnic? The key to a good picnic is taking the time to do a little bit of planning.
If you want to spend some more time outdoors this summer but want to ditch the beach, take your next meal outdoors and enjoy an old-fashioned picnic. Before you leave make sure you do a bit of planning to make sure your afternoon is delicious, fun and relaxing.
Gather All The Supplies
Before even thinking about what’s on the menu you need to make sure you have a few essential accessories. Do you have a cute picnic basket? How about a regular cooler? Your first essential is some way to transport your food to the picnic site. You can use anything from a cooler to a canvas bag depending on how much food you are bringing and whether or not you need to keep things cold.
You will also need plates and utensils, reusable or disposable. Disposable would be easier to discard after using but reusable is always a better choice for the environment!

Location can make or break a picnic. Make sure you look for your ideal picnic location before you leave. Do you want some place secluded? Maybe you would rather someplace popular? You can find the perfect spot with a little Googling to see what is nearby.
Create Your Menu
One of the best things about a picnic is that there are no “right” foods to bring! You can pack simple sandwiches and sodas or cook a gourmet meal to transport with you to enjoy on location.
When you think about what you would like to eat, keep in mind how many you will be serving and how long you will be transporting the food. How long should the food be kept cool? Do you need a lot of utensils and serving implements? How about condiments?
Drinks are also an important menu item that cannot be forgotten! Bring some cans and bottled so guests have options or create your own beverages and transport them in thermoses and chill with ice from a cooler while serving.
